Public Health France Barometers

The Santé publique France Health Barometer: a survey of health-related behaviors, opinions, and knowledge designed to guide public health prevention and education policies.

The 2017 edition was part of the broader effort to combat smoking, a major public health issue, as evidenced by the launch of the first National Tobacco Control Program (2014–2019). It enabled an update of the estimate of smoking prevalence, as well as an evaluation of the “Moi(s) sans tabac” tobacco prevention campaign.

The 2017 Health Barometer also aimed to update and expand knowledge regarding alcohol and illicit drug use. Finally, among the main objectives of this survey were updating indicators related to mental health in France and evaluating the adequacy of healthcare utilization.

The fieldwork for the survey, conducted by the Ipsos research institute, took place from January 5 to July 18, 2017, with 25,319 people aged 18 to 85. Landline and mobile phone numbers were randomly generated. The telephone interview lasted an average of 31 minutes.
