COVID-19 Studies and Surveys
Here you will find all the studies and surveys conducted in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in collaboration with our partners or research teams, organized by field (infectious diseases, prevention, mental health, etc.) and by population.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous studies and surveys have been conducted. Like other organizations in France and its counterparts abroad, Santé publique France has worked closely with its partners to better understand the dynamics of the pandemic, the impact of measures taken to curb the spread of the virus, the impact on mortality, the health and well-being of the population, insights into health behaviors, and monitoring how these behaviors evolve…
These surveys were conducted among the general population and certain professionals, including healthcare workers. Several projects focused specifically on vulnerable populations and examined the impact of COVID-19 across the social spectrum. The results of these surveys were presented in our weekly epidemiological updates and made available on the website on the pages dedicated to each study. These results were highlighted in news articles, press releases, and on social media.

- National surveillance of pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome (PIMS) cases to confirm the warning signal regarding the emergence of this new “Kawasaki-like” syndrome linked to COVID-19, and subsequently to identify cases.
- Study on COVID-19 vaccination coverage among staff and residents of long-term care facilities
- CONFEADO study for children on how they experienced lockdown
- Survey on the mental health of young children to measure and monitor mental health status over time, describe the various dimensions of mental health, and identify the circumstances, determinants, and impact on well-being or quality of life
- Viquop study involving 60 participants to track changes in health behaviors (precautionary measures, lockdown, alcohol and tobacco use, diet, and physical activity) and perceptions of their health status (well-being, health issues) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic
- COSET-COVID study among self-employed workers and those in the agricultural sector to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their professional activity and health status
- National survey of COVID-19 cases among healthcare professionals working in public or private healthcare facilities who have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus
- Study to determine the proportion of the population infected with the coronavirus in France
- CoviPrev study to track changes in behavior (precautionary measures, lockdown, alcohol and tobacco use, diet, and physical activity) and mental health (well-being, disorders)
- SCoPe study among a vulnerable population in Perpignan to more accurately estimate the impact of the first wave in three disadvantaged neighborhoods
- CovaPred survey to understand the protective measures adopted by the population and assess vaccination intentions
- ComCor study to identify sociodemographic factors, places frequented, and behaviors associated with an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection
- Flash# surveys to map SARS-CoV-2 variants across France
View the results of our work published in the "Le point sur" series
The "Le point sur" series aimed to regularly communicate the results of Santé publique France’s work (surveys, studies, etc.) as they progressed. These short, concise publications provided a precise, dated overview of the results of a given survey. They were intended above all to be informative and accessible to as many people as possible.

Other projects and studies in which Santé publique France contributes its expertise
Santé publique France has joined forces with other stakeholders to advance knowledge. We have contributed our expertise to several projects and studies led by stakeholders committed to advancing knowledge about this virus and combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
Support in organizing the biological component of the EpiCOV and Sapris surveys by Inserm
These surveys, designed to determine the immune status of the French population, included a biological component involving the use of at-home self-collection kits. For more information: EpiCOV and Sapris surveys.
Participation in the “Smoking and COVID” working group of the High Council for Public Health (HCSP)
Santé publique France contributed to the HCSP’s opinion on smoking and COVID-19 by participating in the multidisciplinary and multi-institutional working group. This opinion was based on:
- a literature review updated as of April 27, 2020 (published articles, as well as, given the recent nature of the issue, articles posted on digital platforms without prior peer review),
- discussions with researchers who had conducted studies on the subject,
- an ad hoc analysis of data from other AP-HP hospitals.
For more information: opinion on the link between smoking and COVID-19.
National and international scientific collaborations
- The French component of the international study by the Winton Centre at the University of Cambridge, led by David Spiegelhalter, on how to communicate COVID risk to the public.
- The CoVaPred study on acceptance of new COVID-19 vaccines led by Michaël Schwarzinger (INSERM-CHU Bordeaux) follows up on a previous collaboration during the H1N1 influenza pandemic using an identical methodology, with randomization of several vaccine characteristics (efficacy, risk of serious side effects, duration of vaccine-induced immunity, laboratory manufacturing the vaccine, healthcare professional administering the vaccine) and corresponding measurement of vaccine acceptance among the adult population aged 18 to 64.
