An international symposium on the reduction of alcohol-related harms was co-organized by Santé publique France and EuroHealthNet, on 3rd December 2024 in Brussels. It addressed two main challenges: how to develop and promote effective low-risk drinking guidelines, and what is the impact and how to counteract the alcohol industry's influence on health policies. Conclusions: Effective reduction of alcohol-related harms requires information to the citizens such as evidence-based guidelines and health warnings, robust public health campaigns, but also a set of strong policy measures. International cooperation and learning from different countries experiences are crucial. The symposium emphasized the need for continued united advocacy, research, and policy innovation to combat alcohol-related harms and the influence of economic interests.
