Résistance aux antibiotiques

Antibiotic resistance

Antibiotic resistance renders one or more antibiotics ineffective against a bacterial infection. This phenomenon can make it difficult, or even impossible, to treat certain infections.

Our missions

  • Monitoring the epidemiological trends of antibiotic-resistant bacteria

  • Issuing alerts in response to any unusual or concerning situation

  • Enabling the adaptation of preventive measures

  • Informing the general public

An alert system: external reporting of healthcare-associated infections

The system for reporting healthcare-associated infections, established in 2001, has been based on the e-Sin digital tool since 2012.

The e-Sin application tracks the management of infectious outbreaks reported by healthcare facilities, in collaboration with the Cpias. Some of these reports may trigger national or international public health alerts.

External reporting of healthcare-associated infections provides data on isolated cases or outbreaks of bacteria exhibiting specific antibiotic resistance.
Public Health France regularly produces reports on this data, particularly regarding emerging highly resistant bacteria.
In addition, the CNRs, particularly the CNR on Antibiotic Resistance, are involved in this alert system as needed, especially for reports involving mechanisms of emerging antibiotic resistance.
