COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for September 23, 2021

Key Points

In Week 37, all epidemiological indicators continued to improve in metropolitan regions. The situation in French Guiana remains very concerning.

  • Mainland France:

    • Decrease in epidemiological indicators across all regions

  • Overseas territories:

    • French Guiana: high incidence rates and hospital indicators, which are on the rise

    • Martinique and Guadeloupe: incidence rates and hospital indicators are decreasing

Variants

Delta variant identified in over 99% of interpretable sequences during the Flash surveys on August 24 and 31.

Contact tracing

Average number of contacts per case slightly increasing:

  • Proportion of cases reporting no contacts again on the decline

  • Proportion of those reporting more than five is increasing

Prevention

  • Vaccination coverage in France as of September 21: 74.5% for one dose and 71.9% for full vaccination

  • CoviPrev survey from August 31 to September 7: increase in signs of anxiety and sleep problems compared to the previous wave

  • Importance of combined measures: vaccination without relaxing adherence to contact tracing and barrier measures amid declining adherence to barrier measures
