COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for June 10, 2021

Key Points

In Week 22, there was a marked decrease in SARS-CoV-2 circulation across the entire country and a reduction in pressure on hospitals. All-cause mortality is once again within expected ranges.

  • Decrease in incidence rates, hospitalizations, and critical care admissions

  • All-cause mortality is once again within expected ranges at the national level

  • Mainland France: Decrease in viral circulation across all regions

  • Overseas territories: incidence rates remain high in French Guiana

  • Variants:

    • Variant 20I/501Y.V1 (Alpha) remains the dominant variant in mainland France

    • Variant 21A/478K (B.1.617.2, Delta) very rarely detected as of May 25 (Flash Survey #10) but with a trend toward an increase in the number of cases and clusters linked to local transmission.

Prevention

  • Vaccination: as of June 7

  • Promotion of vaccination for everyone aged 18 and older

  • Necessity of adhering to preventive measures and limiting contact

  • If symptoms develop, immediate isolation is required, and a test should be taken as soon as possible

  • Importance of contact tracing to limit the spread of the epidemic and SARS-CoV-2 variants
