Winter viruses

Every year, winter viruses cause outbreaks of the flu, gastroenteritis, and bronchiolitis. Simple preventive measures can reduce the risk of infection.

Our missions

  • Monitoring the epidemiological trends of winter viruses

  • Enabling the adaptation of preventive measures

  • Informing the general public

What We Do

The winter surge in cases of influenza, gastroenteritis, and bronchiolitis has significant health implications for the population. Monitoring epidemiological trends, issuing alerts in the event of an outbreak, and implementing preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmission are among the key responsibilities of Santé publique France.

Weekly epidemiological bulletins

As part of its surveillance, monitoring, and alert missions regarding seasonal epidemics, Santé publique France analyzes surveillance data on influenza, bronchiolitis, and acute gastroenteritis from its network of partners. The analysis of this data is published weekly during the winter in national epidemiological bulletins and regional epidemiological reports.

Preventive measures

To reduce the risks associated with winter viruses, Santé publique France has developed various informational resources on the steps to take to limit the spread of infection.

Preventing winter viruses by providing information on best practices

Santé publique France helps people better understand the viruses and illnesses involved. Santé publique France also highlights the four steps that can help prevent winter viruses.

Santé publique France has also created the Vaccination Info Service website. Information on vaccine-preventable diseases is available there.
