Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, September 7, 2021
Key Points
At the national level, a moderate excess of all-cause deaths was observed in week 29 (July 19–25), as well as in weeks 32 and 33 (August 9–22, 2021). This excess specifically concerns adults aged 65–84. Nationwide figures appear to be returning to their usual range of fluctuation in Week 34 (August 23–29).
In mainland France, mortality appears to be returning to within the usual range of fluctuation in all regions except Corsica in week 34, whereas a moderate excess of all-cause deaths was observed in 8 regions in week 32 and in 4 regions in week 33.
In Martinique and Guadeloupe, the number of deaths peaked in week 33 and appears to be declining in week 34, but figures for week 34 remain very high. Based on electronic death certificates, the number of deaths in week 35 is decreasing in Martinique and stabilizing in Guadeloupe.
