Seniors: Did you say social participation?

We often hear about older adults’ social participation, but what exactly does this concept entail? A team of Canadian researchers reviewed the entire body of literature on social participation in an effort to arrive at a consensus definition. No fewer than forty-three definitions were identified. However, a common thread emerges: the individual’s involvement in activities involving interaction with others. This research also helps identify the different levels of social activity among older adults.
