Screens in the Lives of Elementary School Children
The Enabee study (2022) by Santé publique France sheds light on screen use among children as young as 3 years old, with an average of 1 hour and 22 minutes per day for children aged 3–5 and up to 2 hours and 33 minutes for those aged 9–11 in elementary school. Television remains the preferred choice for children aged 3–11, but smartphones and video game consoles are gaining ground, especially among children aged 9 and older. Social inequalities are pronounced: children from families with lower educational attainment spend more time on screens and are more likely to have a screen in their bedroom.
