Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

  • As of October 7, no new locally transmitted cases have been reported in Corsica since week 33. The current tally, which remains unchanged, is 3 locally transmitted chikungunya outbreaks and 18 cases in Corsica.

  • In mainland France, as of October 6, 87 episodes of local vector-borne transmission have been identified: 75 episodes of chikungunya (+6 compared to last week) and 12 episodes of dengue (+1 compared to last week).

  • The number of imported cases in Corsica since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1) remains unchanged: 5 imported cases of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

  • In Corsica during Week 40, asthma-related activity at SOS Médecins among those under 15 continued to rise (47 visits and a 10% share of activity, compared to 31 visits and 7.1% in Week 39). This activity decreased in emergency departments in week 40 for the first time since the start of the school year (7 visits and a 2.4% share of activity, compared to 12 visits and a 3.7% share in week 39).

  • At SOS Médecins, the level returned to was much higher than that of the past two years, while it remained at a similar level in emergency departments.

Acute respiratory infections

  • Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: very low activity.

  • Bronchiolitis (under 1 year): very low activity.

  • COVID-19: activity stable at SOS Médecins and declining in emergency departments.

Mortality

  • No excess mortality observed.
