Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of December 14, 2011.

Over the past week in the region:

The bronchiolitis epidemic continues, with: - the number of bronchiolitis diagnoses continuing to rise among SOS Médecins clinics (16% of diagnoses in children under 2 years of age), - in both university hospitals, an increase in RSV isolates, and at Nantes University Hospital, 40% of emergency department visits for bronchiolitis involved children under two years of age, - at the regional level, a significant impact on emergency department visits among children under one year of age (more than 600 visits across the region’s 7 sentinel hospitals). However, the rate of increase has stabilized, indicating that the epidemic has likely peaked.

No flu activity or increase in the number of gastroenteritis cases has been reported yet.
