Surveillance of Acute Gastroenteritis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of September 26, 2014.
Epidemiological Situation
Following an initial wave of the outbreak observed during June and July, a persistent increase in visits for gastroenteritis has been observed in hospital emergency departments since the start of the school year. This resurgence is primarily observed in pediatric hospital emergency departments. During the week of September 15–21, the number of visits for gastroenteritis was comparable to that observed during the major outbreak of 2012. This upward trend is also being observed by sentinel physicians. Furthermore, the rotavirus positivity rate has been rising since July, confirming the circulation of this virus in Réunion.
