  • The epidemic intensified in week 27, but its impact on public health is becoming more pronounced.

  • In week 27, there was a sharp increase in emergency room visits (+84%, with 46 visits in week 27 vs. 25 in week 26). In contrast, hospitalizations remained moderate (4 in week 27 vs. 5 in week 26). People under 15 years of age remained the most affected (59% of emergency room visits). In terms of severity, 5 people were admitted to intensive care with a biologically confirmed diagnosis of influenza. The proportion of activity attributable to influenza increased from 7.4% in Week 26 to 12.7% in Week 27. Virological surveillance continued to show that influenza B was the predominant circulating virus, with an estimated positivity rate of 31%. Given the epidemiological and virological data, Réunion remains in the midst of an influenza epidemic, with a health impact that is tending to intensify.
