Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of December 4, 2014.
Key Points
Bronchiolitis: The upward trend in bronchiolitis diagnoses (in emergency departments and primary care) among children under 2 years of age confirms the epidemic situation for this disease in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. It should be noted that during previous epidemics, the hospitalization rate was approximately 40%. However, it varied significantly by age: the younger the children, the more frequent hospitalization following a visit to the emergency department (ranging from 83% among infants under 28 days old to 11% among those aged 12–24 months). If the epidemic follows a similar pattern to that of the past two years, the peak could occur during the Christmas holidays, in calendar week 2014-52 or calendar week 2015-01.
Flu: no particular trend in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Pneumonia: although regional data are stable, national data show a clear increase in emergency room visits for this illness.
Gastroenteritis: no particular trend in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Asthma: visits to emergency rooms and SOS Médecins are high over the past 3 weeks, both in the Languedoc-Roussillon region and in France.
