Health Monitoring in the Occitanie Region. Update as of January 19, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In week 02-2023, the four SOS Médecins associations in the region (Nîmes, Montpellier, Perpignan, and Toulouse) recorded 39 cases of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 (or 101 cases per 10,000 consultations), a decrease compared to Week 52 of 2022 (31 cases, 67 cases per 10,000 consultations).

  • Weekly COVID-19 activity in emergency departments has been declining over the past three weeks at the regional level, with 133 suspected cases of COVID-19 in week 02, or 49 per 10,000 consultations for the most recent period (vs. 207 suspected cases, or 75 per 100,000, the previous week).

  • According to data available as of January 17, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., 1,536 COVID-19 cases were currently hospitalized in Occitanie, 6% of whom (N=90) were in critical care units.

Influenza

  • Indicators, while still at a high level, are declining, and an epidemic peak was reached in week 51 of 2022.

  • Oscour® Network: Consultations for all ages regarding a diagnosis of influenza/influenza-like illness were decreasing compared to the previous week across all age groups and throughout the region (except in Aude and Aveyron).

  • SOS Médecins: procedures for all ages for the diagnosis of influenza/influenza-like illness were decreasing compared to the previous week, across all age groups and among all medical groups, except in Nîmes where the indicator remained stable.

  • Sentinelles Network: The incidence rate of influenza-like illness cases seen in general practice was 212/100,000 [119; 305], down from the previous week (291/100,000).

Bronchiolitis

  • In week 2023-02, Occitanie entered the post-epidemic phase.

  • The 2022–2023 epidemic thus lasted 14 weeks, beginning in week 40 of 2022 and ending in week 1 of 2023, during which time more than 5,800 emergency room visits were recorded, as well as more than 2,100 hospitalizations.

Gastroenteritis and acute diarrhea

  • Regional trends among children under 5 only: High activity in private practice (SOS Médecins) and low activity in hospital settings (Oscour® network).
