Key Points

Third week of the flu season with rising flu indicators

Week 11-2022 (March 14–20, 2022):

  • SOS-Médecins: 1,764 consultations for flu-like illness recorded, representing 16.3% of total activity (compared to 12.1% in week 10). However, due to a data transmission issue, data has been incomplete since February 16, 2022; this indicator should therefore be interpreted with caution.

  • Oscour®: 403 emergency department visits for influenza or influenza-like illness, representing 1.4% of total activity (1.2% in week 10), of which 12.7% resulted in hospitalization. Nearly 60% of visits involved children under 15 years of age (as in week 10).

  • Virology data:

    • Influenza A: 18 positive samples at Bordeaux University Hospital, 31 at Limoges University Hospital, and 75 at Poitiers University Hospital, representing a regional positivity rate of 20% (15% in week 10).

    • Influenza B: no positive samples at the Bordeaux, Limoges, and Poitiers University Hospitals.

  • Severe influenza cases: one new patient admitted to intensive care for influenza A reported in week 11, bringing the total to 13 since the start of surveillance in week 40 of 2021.

  • Clustered cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in long-term care facilities: no new clusters reported in week 11.

  • Mortality from electronic certification⁵: 21 (0.14%) deaths were reported with influenza listed as the underlying condition that directly caused or contributed to the death since week 40 of 2021, a quarter of which were reported in the last three weeks.
