Influenza Surveillance in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Update as of January 12, 2022.
Key Points
Flu indicators have stabilized, with the pre-epidemic phase continuing into the fourth week. In Week 01-2022 (January 3–9, 2022):
SOS-Médecins: 580 consultations for flu-like illness recorded, representing 5.6% of total activity (compared to 4.5% in week 52)
Oscour®: 135 emergency room visits for influenza or influenza-like illness, representing 0.5% of total activity (same as in week 52), of which 10% resulted in hospitalization. More than half of the visits involved children under 15 years of age (58% in week 01).
Virology data:
Influenza A: 16 positive samples at Bordeaux University Hospital, 19 at Poitiers University Hospital, and 12 at Limoges University Hospital, representing a regional positivity rate of 6% (compared to 8% in week 52)
Influenza B: no positive samples at the Bordeaux, Limoges, and Poitiers University Hospitals
Severe influenza cases: no severe cases admitted to intensive care were reported in week 01; 3 cases have been admitted since the start of surveillance in week 40 of 2021
Clustered cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in long-term care facilities: 5 episodes reported in week 01, including 1 attributed to influenza.
