Measles Surveillance. Implementation of comprehensive surveillance of residual measles cases in France. Pilot study in three French departments with high vaccination coverage (Cher, Paris, Val-d'Oise)

The Directorate General for Health commissioned the National Public Health Network (RNSP) and the International Center for Children (CIE)—which houses the National Reference Center for Childhood Vaccinations—to conduct a study on measles surveillance in three departments in 1996. In line with the WHO’s European objectives, France has set a goal of reducing the incidence of measles to fewer than 1 case per 100,000 by the year 2000.
