COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of October 13, 2022

Key Points

In week 40, virological indicators show low circulation of COVID-19 in French Guiana.

The incidence remains low despite a slight increase, with 18 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the effective R value is 0.98 [0.72–1.28]. This situation is observed across all regions of French Guiana.

Hospital indicators also reflect this situation, with no new hospitalizations across all departments. No one has been admitted to the ICU for COVID-19 in the past two weeks. The increase in the rate of consultations for acute respiratory infections could be explained by the higher circulation of respiratory syncytial virus (which causes bronchiolitis) observed in week 40.

The Omicron variant is circulating exclusively in French Guiana, with co-circulation of the BA.2, BA.4, and BA.5 sublineages observed in week 40.
