COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of January 19, 2023

Key Points

  • In S02, virological indicators were declining and at low levels, reflecting low circulation of COVID-19 in French Guiana. Incidence and positivity rates decreased by 44% and 2 percentage points, respectively, amid a decline in testing activity. The seven-day rolling effective reproduction number (R_e) from January 8 to 14, 2023, of 0.48 (0.32–0.68) is consistent with this situation.

  • Indicators were stable in the Savanes and Oyapock sectors and declining in the other sectors.

  • In hospitals, the situation was relatively stable. Emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 were similar to those of the previous week. Two fewer hospitalizations across all departments were recorded compared to the previous week. Two admissions to intensive care were recorded. It should be noted that one in-hospital death was reported in French Guiana during S02.
