Vector-borne diseases: community engagement and health promotion in French Guiana.

Home visits, school-based education, and initiatives involving institutions and community organizations working directly with local residents: the recent outbreaks of dengue and then chikungunya in French Guiana required the implementation of a response plan combining prevention efforts, public information, and community engagement. The results are undeniable, even though much remains to be done to strengthen public adherence to health messages.
