Activation of the Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS) The National Heat Wave Plan (PNC) underwent a major overhaul this year to build on the experience of previous years and better align it with meteorological alert levels. Starting in the summer of 2013, the PNC levels are aligned with those of the weather alert system, and the alert map released at 4:00 p.m. by Météo-France will indicate the arrival of a heat wave. From now on, the PNC is structured into four management levels:

  • Level 1 - Seasonal Watch

  • Level 2 – Heat Advisory

  • Level 3 – Heatwave Alert, formerly known as Level Miga (for Warning and Action)

  • Level 4 – Maximum Mobilization.

Established in the summer of 2004 following the 2003 heat wave, the Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS) is integrated into the PNC. This seasonal watch is activated on June 1 and will be automatically deactivated on August 31, unless specific weather conditions warrant its continuation.
