Public Health Bulletin on HIV and STIs in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. November 2019.

Key points

HIV/AIDS

  • Continued increase in testing in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in 2018 (serology tests, rapid diagnostic tests, sales of HIV self-tests).

  • Stabilization in the number of new HIV diagnoses: 55 per million inhabitants in 2018, lower than in mainland France excluding the Île-de-France region. Among the new HIV diagnoses in 2018:

    • an equal and stable proportion of MSM and heterosexuals;

    • a slight decrease among MSM and heterosexuals born in France;

    • an increase in cases among those born abroad, regardless of the mode of transmission;

    • an increase in the number of people diagnosed while asymptomatic;

    • stability in diagnoses at an advanced stage.

  • The number of AIDS diagnoses is estimated to be stable at 11 per million inhabitants in 2018.

  • Good use of e-DO in the region, especially by clinicians, but some laboratory components are still missing.

Gonococcal and recent syphilis infections (ResIST)

  • Continued increase in gonococcal infections (649 cases reported in 2018), mainly among MSM.

  • Decline in cases of recent syphilis (191 cases in 2018), but the proportion of MSM is increasing.

STI screening (SNDS)

  • Syphilis: a decline in the syphilis screening rate (men and women), to be confirmed in the coming years.

  • Chlamydia trachomatis infections: screening rates are increasing among both men and women.

Prevention

  • First report on individuals who initiated PrEP in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes between January 2016 and June 2019.

  • National campaign to encourage testing.
