Epidemiological indicators show an overall increase in medical activity related to gastroenteritis in Martinique over the past several weeks. The fact that outpatient clinics have exceeded the expected seasonal peak for three consecutive weeks, along with data from SOS Médecins, marks the start of the seasonal gastroenteritis outbreak in the region during week 49 of 2012.

REMINDER: To limit the spread of the viruses causing this outbreak, it is essential to follow basic hygiene rules, particularly regular handwashing with soap. Parents are reminded that if their children (especially the youngest ones) show symptoms of gastroenteritis (diarrhea, vomiting), they should consult their primary care physician to prevent dehydration, which can be severe in infants.
