Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in French Guiana. Update as of August 2, 2013.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

During the month of July, the criteria for a phase change have not yet been met for the Kourou sector and the island of Cayenne, which remain in Phase 4 of the Psage ("epidemic"). Outbreaks have been identified in the western sector (Saint-Laurent du Maroni), where the epidemiological situation still corresponds to Phase 2 of the Psage, "epidemic outbreaks." The situation is gradually improving in the inland municipalities, with a decrease in the number of reported cases. Serotypes DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4 are co-circulating, with a strong predominance of serotype DEN-2. Given the overall epidemiological situation, it is important to remember the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites and protecting oneself against mosquitoes. If you experience a sudden onset of fever, it is recommended that you consult your primary care physician.
