Dengue Surveillance in Martinique. Update as of December 12, 2019.
Epidemiological Situation
The circulation of the dengue virus continues to intensify and spread throughout the region:
an increase in the estimated number of clinically suggestive cases seen in private practice, with the threshold exceeded for two consecutive weeks (weeks 48 and 49 of 2019);
a continued rise in biologically confirmed cases since the resurgence that began in September;
a spatial pattern indicating the virus is spreading toward central and northern Martinique, with a total of 18 out of 34 municipalities reporting laboratory-confirmed dengue cases (weeks 2019-46 through 2019-49);
a predominance of the DENV-3 serotype (68%), which has not been circulating in Martinique for some time and is a minority strain.
All these factors have led the Dengue Management Committee to raise the alert level: Phase 3 of the PSAGE: Epidemic Risk.
