COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 28, 2022.

Key points

Guadeloupe

  • In S29, a slight decrease in virological indicators was observed; this trend will need to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

  • The incidence rate decreased by 20%, partly due to reduced testing activity, but remained at a high level. However, the positivity rate remained stable. The highest incidence rates were recorded among those aged 30–39 and 20–29. For the first time since late May, the seven-day rolling effective R from July 17 to 23 of 0.90—95% CI [0.87–0.93]—was significantly below 1, suggesting a decrease in viral circulation.

  • Furthermore, in S29, the mutation at position L452 (L452R or L452Q; C1 screening result), which is present in several Omicron sublineages (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.11), was detected in 38 samples, or 88% of the samples analyzed, compared to 89% in Week 28.

  • In hospitals, emergency department visits decreased by 15%, while new hospital admissions across all departments remained stable. New in-hospital deaths occurring in Guadeloupe and recorded in SI-VIC were also stable in Week 29.

Saint Martin

  • In Saint-Martin, virological indicators were generally stable in Week 29. Like testing activity, the number of new SARS-CoV-2 infections and the positivity rate were stable in Week 29.

  • Hospital activity was low in Week 29, with only one visit to the emergency department for suspected COVID-19 and four hospitalizations recorded. No new hospital deaths were recorded in SI-VIC.

Saint-Barthélemy

  • In Week 29, new SARS-CoV-2 infections were on the decline, with about 20 fewer cases recorded compared to the previous week. The positivity rate decreased by nearly four percentage points.

  • Hospital activity remained low in Saint-Barthélemy. In Week 29, no visits to the emergency department for suspected COVID-19 and no new hospital admissions were recorded.
