COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of February 17, 2022

Key Points

In Guadeloupe, the decline in all SARS-CoV-2 virological indicators continued for the fourth consecutive week in week 2022-06. Incidence and positivity rates were decreasing, still partly due to the decline in testing rates. The Omicron variant remained predominant in week 2022-06 in Guadeloupe. The incidence rate was also decreasing across all age groups. However, the 15–44 and 0–14 age groups had the highest incidence rates. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between February 6 and 12, 2022, was 0.68 – 95% CI [0.66–0.70]. It had been significantly below 1 since February 1 and confirmed the decline in SARS-CoV-2 circulation in Guadeloupe. At the hospital level, the number of new admissions across all departments was decreasing. However, hospitals remain under strain with a high number of new admissions (across all departments and in intensive care) during week 2022-06.
