Key Points 

  • Météo-France issued an orange heat wave alert for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region on June 22. It covered four departments: Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, and Vaucluse. This alert was lifted on June 26 in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, and Vaucluse. Since June 27, three departments have been under an orange heat wave alert: the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the Alpes-Maritimes, and the Var.

  • At the regional level, an analysis of emergency care utilization since the start of the heat wave shows:

    • an increase in medical procedures related to iCanicule at SOS Médecins clinics;

    • an increase in emergency room visits due to heat-related conditions and an increase in the proportion of hospitalizations following such visits among all hospitalizations from all causes.
