Weather Conditions in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

• A new heat wave has been affecting mainland France and Corsica since Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
• The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, already facing a very difficult situation due to wildfires and air pollution affecting the Gironde and Landes departments, experienced a brief but very intense heat spike on Tuesday, July 29. The weather situation led to an orange heat wave alert being issued on July 29 for the Gironde and Landes departments. On July 31, all departments were under a green heat wave alert. 

Analysis of syndromic indicators (July 27–August 2)

• The use of emergency care for all causes (hospital emergency rooms in the Oscour® network and SOS Médecins), across all age groups and among those aged 75 and older, remained within the usual fluctuations for the period. However, a decline in utilization was observed in Gironde through July 29, linked to the wildfires, the departure of tourists and evacuated residents, and the closure of certain SOS Médecins clinics.
• Hospital emergency department activity for the iCanicule indicator (hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) rose slightly during the alert period, though the number of cases remained moderate and below levels observed since the start of summer. At SOS Médecins clinics, the number of patients seeking care for these conditions remained low.
• In all departments, low demand for care was observed for heat-related indicators during the period.
