Health Monitoring in Réunion. Bulletin of May 22, 2026.

Key Points

Leptospirosis

  • The ongoing seasonal resurgence of leptospirosis continues at a high level: 189 cases in 2026.

Dengue and Chikungunya

  • 47 cases of chikungunya and 190 cases of locally acquired dengue have been detected since the beginning of the year, with several clusters of dengue cases observed in Saint-Leu, Le Tampon, L’Etang-Salé, La Possession, and various neighborhoods of Saint-Paul. Given the active circulation of dengue, chikungunya, and leptospirosis, the differential diagnosis of “chikungunya/dengue/leptospirosis” must be considered, with the option of ordering a triplex PCR test—available in all laboratories—for diagnostic confirmation, appropriate therapeutic management, and the implementation of specific control measures.

Flu-like syndrome

  • No public health impact.

Bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age

  • Health indicators with a low level of intensity.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Health indicators have remained stable over the past few weeks.

COVID-19

  • Health and virological indicators at a very low intensity level.

Mpox

  • 11 cases (including 6 imported cases) were reported in Réunion between S05 and S21/2026.
