Perception, understanding, and use of Nutri-Score with the aim of providing information on changes to its algorithm. A French qualitative study including an observation of purchasing behavior

Nutri-Score is widely known but is used as a secondary consideration after other, more important purchasing criteria; The process of updating the algorithm is perceived as normal and relevant, which could make the logo more credible in the eyes of consumers; Lack of awareness regarding certain aspects of Nutri-Score (calculation method, issuing body) can lead to mistrust and limit its use; Criticism of the logo shared on social media (for example, regarding the calculation per 100 g versus per serving) is largely unknown to consumers and appears to be limited to stakeholders.
