Loon-Plage: Local Food Systems, Food Supply, and Social Integration.

In Loon-Plage (Nord), the municipal cafeteria serves meals to 80% of schoolchildren, compared to 30% a decade ago when the service was outsourced. Five hundred high-quality meals are served each day to children, as well as to seniors dining at the community center and to recipients of the home-delivered meal service. An organic “Jardin de Cocagne” farm employs people in job-training programs and supplies the cafeteria. Baskets of organic vegetables produced at a subsidized price are offered to low-income families.
