Mandatory reporting of acute hepatitis B: results from the first year of surveillance, France, March 1, 2003 – April 1, 2004

The authors present here cases of symptomatic acute hepatitis B reported between March 1, 2003, and March 1, 2004. These are the initial results of the implementation of a new mandatory reporting system, described here. These initial data provide evidence supporting the impact of vaccination. Prevention measures—particularly adherence to the vaccination schedule and the implementation of vaccination recommendations for at-risk individuals—must be reiterated and reinforced.
