Severe lung diseases among e-cigarette users: Update as of January 8, 2020

Key Points

  • To date in France, 5 cases of severe lung disease among vapers aged 18 to 60 have been reported.

  • The dates of diagnosis range from October 2018 to December 2019. Three cases occurred prior to the alert issued by the CDC.

  • Four patients were hospitalized, including two who were admitted to the intensive care unit. Three patients have returned home, and one patient remains hospitalized. To date, no deaths have been reported.

  • To date, there is no evidence of an outbreak of severe non-infectious lung disease among vapers in France, such as that observed in the United States.
