Key Points

In Week 25 (June 15–21, 2026), the number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations following those visits increased among children under 2 years of age (up 7%, or 1,365 visits, and up 11%, or 299 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups compared to the previous week.

Amid a heat wave, there was an increase across all age groups in visits for:

  • Hyperthermia/heatstroke (+580%, or +627 visits)
  • Dehydration (+78%, or +298 visits)
  • Fainting (+13%, or +117 visits)
  • Insect bites (+58%, or +467 visits)

Among other conditions, there has been an increase in visits among children and people aged 75 and older for:

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms: gastroenteritis (up 17% and 7%, respectively, or 513 and 16 visits) and vomiting (up 20% and 11%, respectively, or 276 and 38 visits)
  • Fever alone (up 23% and 20%, respectively, or 879 and 76 visits)

There was also an increase in allergy cases among adults (+22%, or +396 visits).
