Social CPS Worksheet: Communicating Effectively and Positively (S1.1)

This sheet focuses on the first general psychosocial competency (PSC) and provides an overview of a specific psychosocial competency: Communicating Effectively and Positively (S1.1). Communicating effectively and positively requires the ability to identify and overcome obstacles to smooth and constructive communication. This form of communication involves avoiding hurtful attitudes and verbal expressions (lack of attention, rejection, sarcasm, mockery, aggression, rudeness, etc.) and relies on the ability to develop supportive and encouraging attitudes and language (attention, recognition, encouragement, warm gestures, etc.). Communicating effectively and positively requires developing three main psychological skills: Skill 1: Avoiding attitudes and behaviors that undermine the message and the relationship; Skill 2: Using more supportive verbal attitudes and behaviors (= positive communication); Skill 3: Formulating clear requests tailored to the other person (= effective communication). This specific skill can be applied during CPS activities. Thus, following a theoretical section, practical examples are presented for adults, youth, and children.
