Providing Jobs for Homeless Youth [Interview].

Life on the streets takes a heavy toll on those who live there; the “Alternative Work Paid by the Day” program allows participants to work on an hourly basis while also providing earlier access to care and reducing the risks associated with substance use, even if the young people have not yet settled into a stable routine. Having a job is rewarding and helps them rebuild their self-esteem. Ten cities will implement this pilot program by the end of 2016.
