Health promotion is gaining ground in French-speaking Africa.

How can health promotion initiatives be developed in French-speaking Africa? Since 2006, the International Francophone Network for Health Promotion (Réfips) has been providing on-site training in this concept to officials from government agencies and civil society organizations. Approximately two hundred professionals have been trained. To date, only a few countries have developed, on a piecemeal basis, health promotion initiatives that closely involve local communities. There is therefore a significant need to combat major diseases such as malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis.
