Accidents in daily life: a major public health issue.
The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of accidents of daily life (ADLs) and their epidemiological surveillance. After reviewing the definitions to situate ADLs within the broader context of trauma, we will describe the current state of knowledge in this field in terms of mortality, sequelae, morbidity, management, and cost. It will be noted that AcVCs constitute a major public health problem that remains largely misunderstood, yet one for which prevention is highly “cost-effective.” The main organizations involved in combating AcVCs will be presented, followed by the sources of epidemiological data in France.
