Heat-related deaths in healthcare facilities in France: August 8–19, 2003. Health impact of the August 2003 heat wave: initial findings and further research needed

This article presents the survey conducted in healthcare facilities that treated cases of heatstroke. The study suggests that people with limited independence—such as the elderly, those with physical disabilities, or those with mental illnesses—are highly vulnerable to heat. During a heat wave, they should be protected from exposure to high temperatures to prevent heatstroke, which can rapidly progress to death.
