Health and TV Shows [Cinésanté].

The current popularity of television series warrants consideration in the context of health education. Indeed, they can convey caricatured portrayals of problematic behaviors such as alcohol consumption, smoking, or overeating. Smoking is portrayed as a symbol of emancipation, masculinity, and social superiority; alcohol, a reward after success; food, a source of comfort and an anxiety reliever in the face of stress. Many series thus reinforce outdated societal norms. Here is some background information and methodological guidance for discussing and analyzing these behaviors depicted in television series with middle and high school students as part of health education sessions.
