Vaccination is one of the priorities of the National Health Strategy. In France, healthcare workers are subject to specific vaccination recommendations aimed, on the one hand, at protecting them from the communicable diseases to which they are exposed and, on the other hand, at reducing the transmission of these diseases to their patients and residents.

Vaccinations against influenza, measles, chickenpox, and pertussis, currently recommended for healthcare professionals, are subject to potential changes in the accompanying regulatory framework. Historical data showed that vaccination coverage for these infections among these professionals was insufficient1,2.

Santé publique France, in collaboration with CPias Nouvelle Aquitaine, which oversees the National Mission to Support Actions for the Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infections (Mission Matis), thus conducted two studies in 2019, the first in healthcare facilities and the second in long-term care facilities (Ehpad). Both studies, based on random samples of facilities (selected by lottery), were conducted in metropolitan France and in the French overseas departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, and Mayotte).

The initial results of these studies on influenza vaccination coverage among healthcare professionals in nursing homes and healthcare facilities for the 2018–2019 season were released in October 2019. The results on vaccination coverage against measles, pertussis, and chickenpox among healthcare professionals in healthcare facilities were released in November 2020.
