Public Health Bulletin: Vaccination. November 2020.
Key Points
Vaccination coverage among healthcare workers in healthcare facilities in France in 2019:
for measles:
is estimated at 73%,
varies by the worker’s age, profession, department, and region
has increased (+23 percentage points) compared to 2009 estimates, but with varying trends depending on the healthcare worker.
for pertussis:
is estimated at 54%,
varies mainly by the healthcare professional’s age, profession, gender, type of department, region, and the presence of a vaccination coordinator in the department,
has increased (+33 percentage points) compared to the 2009 estimates.
For chickenpox:
is estimated at 26%,
varies by the healthcare worker’s age, profession, type of department, and region,
remains relatively stable compared to the 2009 estimates.
Taking into account the history of measles (37% of healthcare professionals) and chickenpox (87% of healthcare professionals) and vaccination coverage among healthcare professionals against these two diseases, it is estimated that 15% of healthcare professionals in healthcare facilities still need to be vaccinated against measles and 10% against chickenpox. More than 70% of healthcare professionals say they are “very supportive” or “somewhat supportive” of mandatory vaccination against measles and pertussis for their profession
For chickenpox, this percentage is 58%, but it may be underestimated because the question did not specify that mandatory vaccination would only be considered for healthcare professionals with no history of chickenpox.
