Tetanus vaccination among patients who visited the Strasbourg International Vaccination and Travel Advisory Center

The Strasbourg International Vaccination and Travel Advisory Center sees approximately 7,000 people each year, 4,500 of whom come for a yellow fever vaccination. During a consultation, the patient fills out a medical questionnaire and provides details about their upcoming trip: destination, duration, travel dates, and living conditions. The doctor reviews the patient’s medical records (health record and vaccination certificates) to assess their vaccination status regarding travel-related diseases and recommends vaccines based on the destination and associated health risks. During this consultation, the patient receives advice on general hygiene and food safety, details on how parasitic diseases are transmitted, and the precautions to take. Finally, prescriptions for antimalarial medications are issued as needed. This consultation also serves as an opportunity to monitor vaccination status for certain diseases, including tetanus, polio, and diphtheria, particularly in adults. Vaccines are available at the center and can be administered during the consultation if a booster shot is needed and if the patient wishes. The center’s activity report indicates that more than 1,500 tetanus vaccinations are administered annually to update the vaccination schedule. We describe the population that has received this vaccination. (R.A.)
