Monthly Tobacco Dashboard: A real-time tool for tracking trends in smoking in France.

Since April 2004, the French Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT) has been compiling several key indicators each month in a "tobacco dashboard." This tool makes it possible to track trends in (part of) the smoking phenomenon in France, complementing surveys and other statistics produced in this field. The key finding for 2004 appears to be the sustained decline in cigarette sales following the price increases in October 2003 and January 2004. Regarding indicators related to attempts to quit or requests for help, 2004 appears primarily as a year of confirmation, with changes having occurred mainly in the second half of 2003.
