Key Points 

• In Week 31 (July 27–August 2, 2026), the number of emergency department visits was down compared to the previous week among children aged 2–14 (-5%, or -2,809 visits) and remained stable in other age groups. The number of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit remained stable across all age groups.
• Most indicators were stable or declining among both children and adults. However, amid the heat wave that affected mainland France during Week 31, emergency department visits increased compared to Week 30 for:
  • hyperthermia/heatstroke (+47%, or +84 visits across all ages) and dehydration among those aged 15–74 (+14%, or +22 visits), though at levels well below those seen during the first three heat waves of the year;
  • insect bites among children (+14%, or +41 visits);
  • skin conditions (almost exclusively rashes and other nonspecific skin eruptions) among children under 2 years of age (+27%, or +63 visits).
• There was also an increase in visits for fever alone among those aged 15–74 (+11%, or +109 visits), as well as for a digestive condition:
  • nonspecific abdominal pain (+10%, or +170 visits) and vomiting (+15%, or +51 visits) among those aged 75 and older;
  • gastroenteritis among those aged 15–74 (+7%, or +100 visits). Among children, the number of emergency department visits for gastroenteritis remained stable and was still higher than in previous years.
