Key Points
In Week 41 (October 9–15, 2023), activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among children and declined slightly among adults (-6%, or 3,405 fewer visits).
Certain seasonal respiratory indicators are on the rise among children and those aged 75 and older. Among children under 2 years of age, medical procedures for bronchiolitis continue to rise (+20%, or +63 procedures), while procedures for bronchitis are also increasing (+28%, or +67 procedures) but at lower levels than in previous years. An increase in medical procedures for influenza/influenza-like illness at a rate similar to the previous year (+9%, or +39 procedures) and for asthma (+7%, or +43 procedures) is observed among those aged 2–14. There was also an increase in procedures for pneumonia among children aged 2–14 (+13%, or +34 procedures) and those aged 75 and older (+20%, or +46 procedures), with levels higher than in previous years. Finally, a slight increase in ENT conditions was observed among those aged 75 and older (+8%, or +24 procedures).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in procedures for viral syndrome among children (+11%, or +71 procedures), for gastroenteritis (+10%, or +31 procedures) among children under 2 years of age, and for conjunctivitis (+20%, or +67 procedures) and scarlet fever (+21%, or +25 procedures) among children aged 2–14. Among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase in cases of general health deterioration (+10%, or +25 cases). Finally, regarding mental health, there was an increase in cases for depressive disorders among those aged 45 and older (+44%, or +28 cases) and for anxiety among children under 15 in small sample sizes (+29%, or +7 cases).
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, no unusual variations in the monitored indicators were observed.
