Key Points
In Week 09 (February 28–March 6, 2022), total activity across all age groups at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children aged 2–14 (+20%, or +2,357 visits) and remained stable in other age groups.
After several weeks of decline, cases involving suspected COVID-19 stabilized among adults (-3%, or -31 cases) and rose slightly among children (+8%, or +23 cases). In total, 1,314 cases (vs. 1,312 cases in W08) were recorded across all age groups (i.e., -0.2% vs. -13% in W08 and -25% in W07). Suspected COVID-19 remains the 9th most common condition among those aged 2–14 and 15–74. Procedures were stable or declining in most regions; an increase (small to moderate in scale) was observed in Centre-Val de Loire (+333%, or +10 procedures), Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+54%, or +7 procedures), Grand-Est (+21%, or +18 procedures), Île-de-France (+20%, or +38 procedures), PACA (+18%, or +35 procedures), and Hauts-de-France (+8%, or +10 procedures).
Since surveillance began on March 3, 2020, 329,120 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.
In connection with the start of the school year in Zones A and B, most seasonal indicators were on the rise among children aged 2–14 and adults aged 15 and older: influenza/flu-like illness (up 68%, or 560 more cases, and up 38%, or 802 more cases, respectively), ENT conditions (up 21%, or 951 cases, and up 15%, or 832 cases), bronchitis (up 25%, or 115 cases, and up 11%, or 137 cases), and gastroenteritis (up 15%, or 227 cases, and up 4%, or 99 cases).
Among other indicators, there was also an increase among 2- to 14-year-olds in procedures for trauma (+18%, or +65 procedures), isolated fever (+16%, or +56 procedures), viral syndrome (+37%, or +85 procedures), and abdominal pain (+34%, or +76 procedures). In small sample sizes, procedures for asthma were on the rise among those aged 75 and older.
